Lovely little wriggly composting worms, that is.* 2000 of them, according to the label on the bucket, and now safely (I hope) in their new homes. Yes - after a short (hah!) hiatus (shush now - we were letting the gardens beds settle and mature, honest), there has been some progress.
When I pulled the straw apart to dig the holes for the worm feeding tubes, I was greeted by beautiful damp, dark soil. We've filled the 'pool' at the base, and it overflows as it's supposed to so the soil doesn't get waterlogged or the worms drowned. So far, so good.
I'll start feeding the worms, and give it a few days before planting.
*I was thoroughly spoiled for Mothers' Day - not only did I get worms, I also received earrings from the X-man (chosen from the school stall all by himself), a pen holder for my desk from Miss Tizz, together with a handmade tea cup card with a real tea bag attached, and a Lexx soundtrack CD (the husband is coping well with my obsession, and the CD is on high rotation - with headphones!).
