It is magnificent. One of my favourite pictures in a cookbook is of an artichoke flower in an Italian cookbook - so vivid.
I knew it was a thistle-type flower, but didn't realise it would be quite so big and bright!

The whole plant, so you can get an idea of the size of the flower. So glad we let it go to seed!
